GP shutting down Georgia sawmill
Atlanta-headquartered Georgia-Pacific announced closure of its Sterling sawmill in Glynn County, Ga. The facility was closed with effect from February 1, 2019. The decision is expected to impact approximately 120 employees. Rick Kimble, the company spokesperson, said that the facility has been facing challenges with log procurement for a long time. The current market conditions suggest unlikely recovery or market improvement in the foreseeable future. For more, click here...

Boise Cascade closing LVL plant in N.C.
Just weeks removed from the joyous announcement of a new manufacturing facility planned for Person County, N.C., another company has announced it will layoff more than half its workforce. Boise Cascade has said it will close one of its two Roxboro divisions, resulting in the layoff of 56 workers in the laminated veneer lumber division. For more, click here...

Jordan Lumber schedules downtime
Jordan Forest Products, Barnesville, Ga., and Jordan Lumber & Supply, Mt. Gilead, N.C., have each scheduled approximately seven days of downtime for various upgrades and maintenance. These shutdowns will take place between June 21 and July 8. Shipping will operate normal hours with the exception of Wednesday, July 4.
