High Cascade announces maintenance curtailments
High Cascade Forest has announced that its Mt. Hood, Ore., and Carson, Wash., sawmills will be down for maintenance, beginning June 28. Both mills will resume production July 8.

Manke announces curtailment at Tacoma sawmill
Manke Lumber has announced that it has curtailed the night shift at its small log sawmill in Tacoma, Wash., indefinitely. The company will continue to operate that sawmill and planer on day shift.

Stimson announces layoff at Oregon sawmill
Stimson Lumber Co. said Friday it will lay off 60 workers at its mill near Forest Grove, attributing the cuts to the rising “cost of doing business in Oregon.” “The environment in Oregon is becoming more challenging in a very competitive industry,” said Stimson CEO Andrew Miller. Stimson Lumber employs 780 altogether, a little more than half of them in Oregon. Miller said the mill near Forest Grove employed 225 before Friday’s cuts. For more, click here...

Stoltze announces sawmill curtailment
F.H. Stoltze Land & Lumber Company, Columbia Falls, Mont., has announced that it will curtail production of its night shift in the sawmill, beginning June 10 until further notice.

Wyoming mill announces curtailment
Saratoga Forest Management, Saratoga, Wyo., has announced a suspension of production starting May 20 and resuming on June 10. “This suspension is to complete necessary maintenance projects in the sawmill and planer,” said Gary Ervin, SFM Managing Partner. Normal shipping hours will continue during this downtime as long as there is inventory to ship.

Georgia-Pacific shuts down Coos Bay sawmill
Georgia-Pacific has announced that effective today, it is ceasing operations at its sawmill in Coos Bay, Ore., due to overall market conditions. A company spokesman cited unreliable rail service and difficulties procuring logs as further reasons for the permanent closure. The sawmill in Coos Bay began producing lumber in 1994.

Swanson Group announces permanent closure of Glendale sawmill
Today Swanson Group announces the permanent closure of its Glendale, Ore., sawmill. The mill has been operated by the Swanson family since 1951. Log supply constraints forced upon us by Federal Timber Policy necessitate the closure. We will be adding capacity at our Glendale Plywood facility and our Roseburg Stud mill and will be reassigning all of the affected Glendale Sawmill employees to our local operations. This change does not affect operations at the Springfield Plywood facility.

Swanson announces Glendale curtailment
Swanson Group, Glendale, Ore., announced that its Glendale sawmill and planer will be down for a minimum of one week, beginning Monday, March 4, due to log and market conditions.

Wyoming mill announces curtailment
Saratoga Forest Management, Saratoga, Wyo., has announced a suspension of production starting December 24 and resuming on January 2. “This suspension will allow our employees the opportunity to spend time with their families during the holidays,” said Gary Ervin, SFM Managing Partner. Normal shipping hours will be from December 26 through December 31 and orders will be fulfilled without interruption.

Rosboro announces holiday shutdowns
Rosboro, Springfield, Ore., has announced the following holiday shutdown schedule: the glulam plants and the dimension mill will be down December 24 through January 4; the stud mill will be down December 17 through January 4. The mills will continue to ship during the holiday shutdown.

Schmidbauer announces holiday downtime
Schmidbauer Lumber, Eureka, Calif., has announced that its mill will be down for maintenance the week of December 24, and will return to production January 2.

Swanson curtailing at Roseburg stud mill
Swanson Group will be curtailing its Roseburg, Ore., stud mill for two weeks beginning December 20 and coming back up on January 7. This shutdown will be for maintenance and a capital improvement project at the log processes center.

Rosboro to curtail stud mill
Rosboro, Springfield, Ore., has announced that its stud mill will curtail production November 19-30 due to market conditions. Shipping will continue to operate during the curtailment.

Swanson to curtail Glendale sawmill
Swanson Group has announced that its sawmill in Glendale, Ore., will be down November 17-25 for a planer project.

Seneca announces downtime
Seneca Sawmill Co. announced its mills in Eugene and Noti, Oregon will be idle the week of November 19. Sales and shipping will be open November 19-21.

Sierra Pacific curtails Burney sawmill
Sierra Pacific Industries has announced that its sawmill in Burney, Calif., is expected to be down for the rest of this year while the company rebuilds the facility.

Swanson announces curtailments at Roseburg, Glendale
Swanson Group has announced that it will be curtailing production at its Roseburg, Ore., stud mill by 30% and its Glendale, Ore., sawmill by 20%, effective immediately. A company spokesman cited deteriorating market conditions as the reason for the curtailments.

Seneca announces curtailment
Seneca Sawmills has announced that the company is reducing production hours at its mills in Eugene and Noti, Ore., due to market conditions. All mills will now run two eight-hour shifts, four days a week.

Seneca announces downtime at Eugene plant
Seneca Sawmills has announced that its dimension mill in Eugene, Ore., will be down from August 27 until September 4 for installation of a new planer.

Swanson Group plans curtailment
Swanson Group will take extended downtime over the July 4 holiday for maintenance. The sawmill in Glendale, Oregon, the stud mill in Roseburg, Oregon and the plywood plant in Springfield, Oregon will be down from July 4-9. The Glendale plywood plant will be down June 29 to July 9.

Boise Cascade announces indefinite curtailment
Boise Cascade Company announced plans to curtail its lumber mill operation in Elgin, Oregon, according to a May 16 press release. The 60-day notice includes the sawmill, planer, and shipping department. The powerhouse and log utilization center will remain operational. For more, click here...

Douglas County announces downtime
Douglas County Forest Products, Roseburg, Ore., will be down beginning January 12 and expects to return to production January 22. The company is conducting general maintenance and equipment upgrades.

Rosboro announces two-week shutdown
Rosboro, Springfield, Ore., has announced that its stud mill, dimension mill, and glulam plants will be down for two weeks during the holidays, from December 25 through January 5. Shipping will continue Tuesday through Friday during the holiday shutdown.

Seneca announces holiday downtime
Seneca Sawmills has announced that its dimension mill in Eugene, Ore., will be down December 15 through January 1. The company's stud mill in Eugene and its sawmill in Noti, Ore., will be down December 25 through January 1. Normal hours will resume January 2 for all production sites.

Swanson Brothers announces cutback, holiday downtime
Swanson Brothers Lumber, Noti, Ore., has announced that they have cut production by 30%, as of this week. The company also will be taking downtime for maintenance starting on December 25. The sawmill will start production again on January 8, and the planer on January 15. Sales and shipping will stay open during the shutdown.

Seneca taking downtime week of Thanksgiving
Seneca Sawmill Company has announced that its production facilities in Eugene and Noti, Ore., will be down November 20-26. Operations will resume regular shifts and hours on November 27. The sales office will be closed November 23-24.

Roseburg announces curtailment at Dillard sawmill
Roseburg Forest Products will be curtailing the Dillard, Ore., sawmill operation beginning October 21 in an effort to allow log deliveries to restore inventories to more efficient levels. The company plans to restart the mill mid- to late next week. The dry kilns, planer, and shipping will continue to operate.

Swanson to curtail production at two mills
Swanson Group announced it will curtail operations at its sawmill in Glendale, Ore. and its stud mill in Roseburg, Ore., beginning Friday, September 8. The company cited low log inventories caused by fire restrictions that have reduced logging. Both plants will stay down until log flows return to normal.
