Random Lengths International Market Report

North American exporters of lumber and panels reported a slightly stronger sales pace in mid-August. Prices of some commodities that were at or near a perceived bottom enticed some customers. This was particularly the case for exporters of Southern Pine to the Caribbean. While buyers in the Mediterranean were still on vacation, those in Northern Europe were back from holidays. Inquiries from Scandinavian countries picked up. Overseas sales of structural panels were steady. Demand for OSB was especially strong in Russia; some traders in this market expressed concern about the damage to structures caused by forest fires.
