Hampton announces downtime at two sawmills
Hampton Affiliates of Portland, Ore., has announced the immediate curtailment of two of its operations, one at its Darrington, Wash., division, and the other at its Warrenton, Ore., sawmill. Overall market conditions were cited. "The only way to deal with this lack of liquidity in a prudent manner is to produce less lumber while the market searches for a bottom," said CEO Steve Zika in a memo to employees. The curtailments will be reviewed on a week-by-week basis. Other Hampton mills may be subject to curtailments if business conditions remain uncertain, according to a statement from the company.
